So, here's the backstory:
I graduated in May of 2007 with my BA and I had originally planned to apply to law school for the fall of '07. Those plans were postponed when I re-connected with a childhood friend, began dating him, and eventually married him a month after I graduated. After the wedding (and an awesome week in Hawaii), we moved to a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I decided to take a year off to settle in to a new area and married life before I applied in the fall of '08. I began working as a legal assistant for a large law firm in downtown Cleveland.
After a miserable winter of sub-zero temperatures, hour long commutes, and having to drive my husband's huge 4-wheel-drive truck to work everyday because my little sports car was stuck in a snowy, icy parking lot, I decided that I wouldn't be doing another Cleveland winter. After much debate, we decided on Naples, FL. For me, it meant: no chance of snow; the beach; a fast-growing legal community; the beach; world-class shopping; oh, and did I mention the beach! For him, it meant: year-round boating opportunities; living somewhere with family ties (his family has a vacation home here); and not having to watch me move south without him. Due to yet another cross-county move, my law school ambitions were once again postponed.
We moved to Naples, Florida about 8 1/2 months ago. I LOVE it here so far, even though the heat & humidity are sometimes miserable! Knowing that it will never
ever snow, however, makes it bearable! I love being minutes away from the beach and world-class shopping (even if I can't really afford any of it right now!). Naples is beautiful! I love the small-town feel with the conveniences of living in the city. I can be downtown on 5th Avenue with high-end shops and art galleries, but still be within a 15 minute drive of the Everglades wilderness! We're less than an hour away from Ft. Myers and only 2 hours away from Miami & Ft. Lauderdale. We have an international airport within half an hour, too, which makes it easy for friends and family to visit. The beaches are gorgeous and the boating is incredible! We sold our boat 2 weeks ago, but we are hoping to get a new one soon because we have found some really great spots that are only accessible by boat.
I found out in February that I was going to law school. I was accepted to 3 of the 5 schools to which I applied, and I made my final decision on which one to attend in April. I couldn't be any more excited about beginning my legal career! It is all I have ever wanted to do, and I really couldn't imagine myself doing anything else.
I'm hoping that the beauty of Naples doesn't distract me too much from my legal studies! I know that it is going to be difficult to force myself to sit in the law library on a gorgeous day when the beach is only 5 minutes away! So far, that's the only downfall I see of law school here. I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to tour the law school campus, and the facilities are really nice, so I don't think it will be that bad!
I still have a little over 2 months until law school begins, and I am already stressing out! Haha...typical me!
